No problem! Thank you for your comment. Check back for possible reviews of the other books in the Conclave of Shadows series, "King of Foxes", and "Exile's Return", which I'm eager to read at some point soon. more…

Seven days to finish a book is much more respectable. This book had me hooked from start to finish. I loved it. It was only slightly larger than some of the works in the Legends II anthology. I enjoyed reading it much more because it was a complete story from beginning to end, whereas most of the stories I read in Legends II had too much epic fanta more…

That word I was trying to find was "diegogarcity". I remembered hearing it on an old podictionary podcast, so after several attempts at trying to spell it for google I gave up and listened to the podcast (it's 21m:22s in). Now that I know how to spell it of course, google delivers . . . more…

I have read the first three stories in this book and they were great, especially the Robin Hobb one, she is an astounding authour and is fast becoming one of my favourite writers. Looks like I'll be reading the live-ship trilogy next, although I like OSC's Alvin Maker character a lot as well. So many books, so little time. No wonder I only seem to more…

Finished book 08th Aug 2008.
New format to follow.
Experimenting with the format of these blog posts is a way for me to work out what information to store about each book I read when I come to design my database for the bookwormtrails website. I've found a PHP Framework based on Ruby on Rails (a rapid development web-dev f more…

Hurray! I've finished. It was fantastic, great and so complex and bittersweet. What a masterwork. A little break from the fantasy journey is due now, just to keep me balanced, although I want to go straight out to the library and take out another Robin Hobb, they're all trilogies so it's a big decision.
Imho, Assassin's Quest has the more…

Yes, I am still reading this book. Some of the slow-down is due to the amount of audio fiction I've been listening to, although I tend to listen to that on my iPod to and from my walk to work, as well as when I'm doing chores at home.
The other reason is because I'm making really good progress on my own novel. There just isn't enough t more…

I have been listening to sooo much audio fiction recently that I don't know where to begin. I especially love EscapePod, PodCastle and Scott Sigler. I'm going to put the podcast-only novel Nocturnal up to the trail soon. As for the short stories -- I was thinking of collecting up a list and creating a virtual anthology of links, perhaps with some t more…

Slow-going on this book, not because of the book but because I didn't take it on my week's holiday to Lanzarote. The flight had severe weight restrictions and, yes, this book is that heavy.
I'm over halfway through this book now and I think we're just starting to head to the grand climax. There are lots of threads that are just starti more…

Old Blood
Fitz has just met a couple who have the Wit magic, which they call the Old Blood. The man is bonded to a she-bear, and his wife to a hawk. They offered some more information as to what the Wit actually is, it seems there's a whole community of Old Blood folk out there, but infuriatingly, Fitz decided not to stay, learn more…

Over 3/4 of the way through this book now and it's a real page turner. I love it when I find a book that seems to stick to my hand and follow me everywhere. A good book should make you stay up far too late and leave you hoping for one that is slightly less gripping next time just for the chance to finally get a good night's sleep.
I've more…

As an addendum to my comments on the differences between literary and popular fiction I'd like to add that I'm not suggesting that genre-fiction is in any way low-brow. Many interesting parallels with every day life and current affairs can be explored in genre fiction in ways that a straight-forward literal telling might not be able to. This is bec more…

I am racing through this book and have just borrowed the second in the Farseer series from my local library.
I had planned to read something different, I quite often like breaking series apart in the trail, for fear of becoming overloaded on a particular authour.
I have been listening to a couple of great podcasts recently hosted by Mic more…In response to: "Assassin’s Apprentice, Book One of The Farseer Trilogy : The Book Trail Begins" 624 days old

Actually, on second thoughts I must concede that Eragon is a bit if a trope-ridden fantasy-brick. When I was chomping my way through the first few chapters I despaired a little at the farm-boy-makes-good direction the story seemed to be taking. I also found that the large amounts of monologue from old men, especially Brom, jarred me out o more…
